
About the Author
Dawn “Doc Jay” Johannes was born in New York City’s Spanish Harlem—“El Barrio”—during the transformative era of the 1960s. She spent her early childhood in the South Bronx and later lived throughout Harlem and Upper Manhattan before relocating to the Woodstock, New York area.
She was educated within the New York City public school system and holds a Bachelor’s degree in English, a Master’s degree in Literacy, and a Ph.D. in Biblical Theology. Following the events of September 11th, she felt called to serve and became a New York City public school teacher and high school administrator.
Doc Jay is a minister, educator, life coach, Certified Gut Health Advocate, and college Dean. She is a lifelong learner with a deep passion for helping others grow, heal, and thrive. Through seminars, educational forums, and transformational workshops, she teaches on spiritual development, personal growth, professional advancement, and holistic wellness.
She is the creator of Gut Talks: Reset | Refocus | Re-Energize, a wellness movement designed to educate and empower individuals to take control of their health through practical, sustainable lifestyle changes. Her sessions are offered both in-person and virtually.
Dawn Johannes is also an author. Her first book, As the Story Goes, is a powerful memoir that reflects on her immigrant grandparents’ experiences in Harlem during the Great Depression. Her second book, Just Write, is a compelling literary piece that captures personal moments and reflections from her journey of growth and becoming. She is currently working on her upcoming book, What’s In Your Hand: Impossibilities Can Manifest.
